Mostly we all have seen the horses running over the vast green fields and on racing tracks on different occasions and tournaments. Horses can swim! sounds different? Well, most of us don't
know much about Horses and this question is one of these acknowledgments of Horses.

As during our general observation, Swimming does not seem like a part of Horses' daily life. That's why we don't see Horses as swimming. They are grandmasters of their riding but, while it comes to swimming, they feel hesitant to swim at the first glance.

Some of us have the idea that not all the Horses swim and some think they are part of a pole.
Whatever you think, the reality is that the Horses swim. Yess! They can swim and have the ability of their heritage. They don't need to be taught to swim because they already know how to swim. However, some of the Horses might not be confident of swimming but when the situation comes to swim such as life endangered circumstances and others, they swim. They know how to swim as it is their natural skill and ability.

How Do Horses Swim?

At the beginning of their swimming, most of the Horses feel panic for some time as this is the phenomenon of all the creatures and they will porpoise for some time in the water until they become
familiar with it. After a few minutes, they will feel more comfortable and reliable and establish themselves to rock at a stable pace.

They are land trotting animals as they use their paddles in an ample pacing movement but for swimming, they use their limbs beneath the water. Their body floats and they use their legs for
paddling in deep shallow water. They keep their neck and nose above the water surface and pull their bodies with high jerks.

Talking about their breathing rhythm depends on the pressure of water applied against their body's chest and abdomen. Their breathing changes in accordance with the water pressure. In water, they take short inspiration and longer expiration. It might due to having difficulty breathing.

They will become gallop and will snort with satisfaction once they become comfortable with water. That's how the Horses swim and it makes them unique as they don't only ride but can
swim as well.

How Long Can Horses Swim?

This is the fact that Horses can ride and swim as well. But, they prefer to ride and swim rarely when required in some circumstances. They like to swim as it comes to a survival point and considers it a pleasurable chance.

If the Horses are already used to the water, they can swim for several minutes.

They have the ability to swim in deep and shallow water like oceans with tourists on their backs.
But in this situation, they can swim just for five to ten minutes, not more than this. After this time, they will feel tired and will not move anymore.

Swimming As Training for Racing

For the training purpose, Horses are not directly trained in vast areas and deep water; instead, they are trained in pools to build their stamina and make them more stable. As in pools, there is no water pressure and waves, they can be trained easily and will not get tired of it.

Swimming has therapeutic effects on horses and is also good for them in many other ways such as track racing, ordeals racing, recovery methods, and far better than usual training. It makes them active and livelier.
